Two exhaust pipes

The original idea of the twin exhaust pipes came up before our USA trip back in 2006. Perhaps you have read the blog http://finnstoccr.blogspot.com/ We needed a storage space for some special tools that we were going to take along.
At first we thought with my riding buddy Jouko that we will just make the pipe out of a piece of plastic sewage pipe or similar. Jouko had a company that manufactured machines and equipment for bakery industry so stainless steel and working with it was everyday business for him.
Jouko decided by himself that we will not make any plastic tool pipes as they would look ridiculous, he will make a copy of the original exhaust pipe.
He made the first twin pipe for his own LT out of 0,5 mm stainless steel sheet and he noticed that it was too thin, The pipe did not want to stay round without some internal braces. For my bike he chose 1 mm thick sheet and that was a bit too thick to work on with his tools. So 0,75 mm thick stainless steel sheet would be ideal.
This shows how much from the full circle had to be cut due to the final drive.

Since the tube is not 100% watertight we added a ventilation connector ...

.....and a simple old washer discharge hose to bring some warm air from top of the gearbox in order to have some air going through the pipe.

Here is the actual "pipe"  hanging in place. The other extra items left of the pipe are my Dauntless trailer hitch receiver and the little rubber nipple is the cover of my rear outlet of the compressed air.

The cover was hand crafted by Jouko using the original left side part as mirror model. The round hole is for my relocated rear shock preload adjuster. Why it is relocated is another story...
In order to make the fake muffler look origininal look for an OEM muffler from salvaged bikes. All you need from the original exhaust pipe is the very end of the stainless steel cover. The pen shows the approximate cutting line.
This is the final end piece. It is mostly covered but has a small ventilation hole.

The when you cut off the end piece from OEM muffler you will not get the downward pointing curve. All you get is the stainless steel outer part so we added a 90 degree stainless steel pipe curve inside so that it has the OEM looks. DO NOT CLEAN THE SOOT FROM THE END PIECE!

The end piece is kept in place by a 6 mm stainless steel bolt which can be seen in the bottom.
Here is the end result. Make sure not to clean the soot from the fake pipe as it will not come back naturally! This happened to me back in 2006 at Curve Cowboy Reunion in Braselton Georgia when there was a toothbrush detail cleaner offering his services and I hired him to detail clean my bike. Of course the guy used a lot of effort to clean both of my exhaust pipes...
